Former teacher donate services to Adopt-a-Teacher Program
The Adopt-a-Teacher Program was started by Deb Taylor at Washington Middle School in Springfield, IL. Her goal was to help provide additional resources to the teachers at her school of which she is one. After seeing the needs of her students (Washington school is 80% poverty) she thought it would be nice if the community members would partner up with the school and adopt a teacher to help with extra supplies for the classrooms.
When Michelle Tjelmeland, founder and owner of e-websmart, a Web consulting and design firm in Springfield, learned of the mission of the Adopt-a-Teacher Program, she contacted Taylor to offer her expertise. Having been a teacher herself, Tjelmeland knew that a teachers needs were many so she couldn’t wait to offer her services. Tjelmeland said, "It was the best way that I knew of to help."
